    Acceptance Commitment Therapy

Acceptance Commitment Therapy or ACT is designed for people who suffer from repeated bouts of depression, chronic unhappiness or anxiety. It is a type of cognitive therapy that uses mindfulness and self-acceptance skills to teach psychological flexibility.

ACT helps you accept what is not in your control and commit to actions which will enrich your life. Suffering is unfortunately inevitable. If we are alive we are going to feel pain. However, trying to control our thoughts and feelings sometimes adds more pain. Sometimes we do things because of our pain which causes us even more pain. It can become a vicious cycle.

We can work together using ACT to help you learn how to take the power out of the negative thoughts and difficult feelings so you can make choices about how you want to live. We will explore your values and goals and practice skills you can use out of session. If you or someone you know may benefit from ACT therapy, please contact me today for a free consultation. I would be happy to speak with you about how I may be able to help.
