Got Goals? 4 Ways to Rock your Resolutions

Did you set new goals last year but lost momentum before February hit? If you made New Year’s resolutions in the past, but didn’t follow through consider taking the following 4 steps to help you ROCK YOUR RESOLUTIONS in 2016 and make this the best year ever!

    1. Get off of Autopilot

If you are reviewing your past year and you realize you didn’t reach any of your goals, ask yourself what action or plan did you take to meet that goal? Sometimes we set a goal, but life is hectic and we put it on the back burner and just continue to live our life on autopilot. It will be very hard to meet our goals and take up new challenges without a plan. Make a conscious effort to do something, one small thing, each day to bring you closer to your goal.

    2. Bring Mindfulness into your Life

This is also another way to get off of autopilot. We need to create awareness of where we are in the moment and to make choices based on where we are now, not where we were a year ago or where we think we might be in the future. Often we get caught up in the past and the future. That just takes us away from the present moment where amazing things are happening. We only have the here-and-now. I encourage you, when your mind wanders to past defeats or your fear of future failures, to think about what you can do right now, in the present that will help you take one step toward your goal.

    3. “Power Start” Your Morning

When we take action we increase our chances of making the change we want and need. Sometimes life is so overwhelming that we just dive into the day to take care of the tasks on our list. Often our goals are at the bottom of the list and if we run out of time, which inevitably we will do, we drop our needs off the list. Start your morning intentionally and create a power start morning routine that will energize your day and help provide you with some focus. For example, I start my day with stretches, a short mediation, I review my big life goals and think about the smaller the goals I need to accomplish for the day, then I journal my gratitude and intentions for the day, and then I make my “to-do” list and go over my calendar for the day and week. All this sets me up for my tasks, but also allows me to keep focus on the big goals, so that whatever it is I am doing is in sync with what needs to happen now and in the future. All this only takes only about 20 minutes and it has been well worth it.

    4. Surround Yourself with Like-Minded People

If you are looking to make change in your life, then surround yourself with people who are on the same track as you. For example, if you want work on health and fitness goals then surround yourself with other people who feel positively about those same goals. If you are surrounding yourself with people who are complaining that they can’t lose weight or run any faster you probably will complain about the things you are not accomplishing, too. Whatever we give our energy to, will persist. So think about shifting your energy. Shift toward the things you want and WILL accomplish. Find people who are accomplishing what you want to accomplish and stick with them and share the small accomplishments along the way. Let go of your failures; don’t let your mind stay glued to the “what didn’t get done.” Let your mind focus on, not only “what got done” but the idea that each day you are taking small steps to meet your goal. Praise yourself and those around you that help you on this journey. A rising tide lifts all boats, so let other people be there for you and you be there for them, too. Keep it positive and you will see incredible changes in your life.

Reaching your goals is a process

Stay focused and if you slip, just start over again. It is ok to give yourself a break. Life, after all, is about the journey. What are your goals for 2016? Are you ready to Rock your Resolutions? Please share your goals below in the comments section. We would love to hear about them.
